An idea. Creating a network of resources.

The attack on the free press, and on truth in general, has been a cornerstone of Trumpism, particularly during his second term. However, the attack started long before his first term, long before he descended down that infamous escalator, long before Trump was even a household name for most Americans. There are many excellent books that address the decades long and strategic eroding of America media and journalism, and we can discuss these in this group, but in this moment, I consider it more important to share resources for truthful political journalism and research. Personally, I have given up on the majority of mainstream sources of information. At best, they have continued to minimize the imminent threat to our democracy; at worst, they have capitulated.

As I have pondered how we, as expats, can offer something to the fight for democracy in the United States—the idea of creating informational resources came to mind. We, as expats, have a lot to offer. It seems that most Americans, including perhaps many expats, have turned toward independent media within the U.S., and we can certainly discuss these resources as well. But I wonder…what are the news sources outside of the U.S. that are credible and reliable? We may need them in the future, as I fear that the current administration will attempt to squash independent journalists and media too, because, well, that is what fascists do.

My wife and I reside in Panama, and in a future article, I plan to discuss the Panamanian media and how they cover the events in the U.S. Honestly, there is still a bit of a language barrier for me, and I will need to do some research.

For my fellow expats who reside in other Central and South American countries, I look forward to hearing from you, as well as from those residing in Canada and within the E.U., and from around the world. What news sources do you trust? If and how does the media cover American fascism?
